Journal 10
In class Tuesday we started our group presentations. Only two groups went today. Overall I though both did well. The presenters need to slow down when they talk and not rush just because they have 20 seconds to speak. At times i was unable to understand what they were saying becasue they were talking so fast and then they would studder. My group did not go yet because Stephanie has no voice and she hasn't had one since last friday. My group knows now that we need to talk slow and think about what we are going to say before we say it. We are using notecards to help guide us through our presentation. Our group met twice, once last week and once this week, in order to make sure everything was correct and turned it and made sure everything would run smoothly. In class today I asked Tess how to get the slides to automatically turn after 20 seconds. If i knew it was going to turn into a big ordeal i probably would not have asked. Now i know that i need to ask her things before the day something is due so i understand and know how to get it done properly. Also, i learned that Tess is still learning about computers and what to do on them since they are always changing. Technology is unpredictable. Tess also told us that we need to start thinking about our final project. When we take pictures we need a consent form and we can't get pictures off the internet unless we have permission which is probably hard to get so i am definetely going to stick to pictures of people i know and then just get a from signed by them. Thursday my group will present our powerpoint so I am hoping that all goes well and we can pull off a good grade:)

Journal 9
Today in class we talked about fallacies. Tess also told us that we do not have class on Thursday but instead we have to meet with our groups to work on our project. I sent my interview to Tess that is suppose to be due on Thursday. We were able to leave early today because Tess had to go somewhere. During the fallacies powerpoint we learned about different kinds of arguments. We learned about deductive or inductive arguments. Deductive is based on logic and fact and inductive is based on drawing conclusions from limited information.
As a group we are going to meet and start working on our powerpoint. We each are going to take five pictures of the shuttle bus and choose which ones that we want to use on our powerpoint. The powerpoint presentation is due next Tuesday. Hopefully we can get some good information and good pictures for our powerpoint.

chapter 15
Chapter 15 is sort of boring and I did not get much out of it. It was a little confusing so if I don't get the summary of the Chapter write I am just letting you know now Tess. I know how to use quotation marks so i am not going to say much about that. I know when to use partial, complete, and blocked quotes. Partial quotes can consist of a single word or phrase in a sentence. Complete quotes has mutltiple sentences inside it and block quotes are extended quotes that are blocked off from the rest of the text. A paraphrase is a statement that you restated that you have put in your own words from a passage out of a book or something. It is a summarization of a source. I need to make sure i paraphrase correctly and re-read it to make sure it sounds right and that it fits into my tone of the document. I can interegate summaries by summarizing an entire source that i have chosen.
Chaper 14
Chapter 14 is over Drafting. My outline will include my points that i will include in my document which would be why people need to get treatment for their eating disorder. Also, it needs to include the order that i make my points in which i will have the most known treatment first and go down until the less of the treatments. Last, i need to have the amount of space i plane to devot to each point. I will probably write about a paragraph for each treatment that i bring up. I can make sure my document is easy to follow by have it well organized and easy to read and understand. If i think a topic is too confusing i will put it into words that the reader will/can understand. My document can be more readable by having my sentences and paragraphs grammatically correct and engaging. I have to make sure i use works that are consistent in tone and style. And obviously i have to document my sources in MLA 09 format.
Journal 8 chapter 13
I finished my annotated bibliography. I think it was kinda hard to get four pages of sources and a description about it and why or why not you think it will be helpful. I have no interviewed someone yet but i plan on doing that sometime later this week.
Chapter 13 is about how you can develop your thesis statement. Since i want to know the best solution (treatment) to anorexia, my thesis statement should identify the solution for it. In step 1, i have to review by reading over all of my information over the treatments of anorexia and i have to put those into the description of my sources. The review will also help me find my main point in my document. In step 2 i need to refelct on my readers. I need t o write about something new that they did not know before reading my document. In step 3, i need to consider the type of document i will write. I need to write my paper in order to figure out what type of genre it will be. In step 4, i need to identify important words in my research question and preliminary thesis statement. I need to find important key words that I have used and relied on and put them into a thesis statement. I need to support my thesis statement by choosing strong points, and have reasons for those strong points.I need to arrange an argument and then make a good argument. I am not sure what fallacies are so I can't write about that in this journal. In order to organize my document i need to choose an prganization pattern that would be appropriate for my paper. I would probably use description becuase i can descripe each and every treatment there is for anorexia nervosa. I then need to create an outline which contain my supporting points, reasons, and evidence. I have a lot to do in order to complete my final project.

Journal 7
Tuesday in class we talked about the Field Work Group Project. My group is doing the Shuttle. We each have to observe and write a one-page reflective essay over it. We also have to do a one-page reflective essay over an interview with someone that rides the shuttle or one of the drivers. AFter that, we have to do a powerpoint with 20 slides and they each have to be 20 seconds long. It is called the Pecha Kucha presentation. I am still working on my annotated bibliography. I am going to the writing center next tuesday at 2:00 to get revisions done. This paper seemed a little easier than the last paper. I have all of my sources besides an online source. I am still trying to find one that I like. I am also going to the Edmul presentation at the library this week at 5:00. That should help me a lot with what i am writing about.

Journal 6.
Today in class we did a finding and evaluation information on the World Wide Web. I did one over the Moon Landing Not Faked. I did not think the site was real because the guy who made it did not sound professional at all. He did not give any sources that he used. The only thing that was given were links to other websites. Each person in the group did a separate site and then we got together and talked about what we thought about the certain one we did. In chapter 9, it talks about how we can serach for sources with online library catalogs. That was the purpose for us to go to the library last thursday to learn how to use the library databases. We can search for sources by their name, author, title, keyword, subject, date of publication or the call number. Databases focus on other sources from different collections. Databases focus on recent articles, newspapers, and magazines. In Chapter 10, I read about how to browse through stacks in the library. I can do that by using the dewey decimal system. I can locate the bibliography by using the librarys reference room. If i need help finding a journal or any other type of source i plan on asking a librarian for help.

Journal 5 kristen thobe
I read chapter 8 and it was about planning to search for information. The information i get should be from books, journals, columns, and internet sources. Instead of writing a propsal, it is already written. The proposal i will use is the one i already wrote. I do not understand what timeliness means though. For the next paper we are doing i have many book sources and internet sources. All i need now is some journals and interviews. I have to find evidence that will make an argument by picking information that is most accurate and which has the most evidence. This chapter was short so i do not know what else to write about.

Journal 4-Kristen Thobe
I finally figured out that I am going to write about the treatment of anorexia. It is a difficult topic to write about but i feel like i have enough information to use and sources to use in my paper. I wrote on all my groups blogs and told them how they did on their rough draft of the topic proposal. We do not have class this week but we have a conference with our teacher which counts as our attendance. I am going to the writing center on Thursday to have someone look over my paper and make corrections. Chapter 6 was about how to take good notes. To be safe from plagiarism, a person needs to quote it and then site it. IF you are not sure if it is plagiarism then site the source anyway. Also, when a person summarizes something, make sure they capture the overall argument and the main points. Chapter 7 was about avoiding plagiarism. Unintentional plagiarism is when a person forgets to put quotes around the sentence and when they take bad notes. It is also when you do not site the source correctly. Intentional plagiarism is when you piece sources together but do not quote it right. I do not think i will have a problem with plagiarism because i usually always look over my work and also have someone else read it over to make sure there is nothing wrong with my sources or citing.

Journal 2-copied and pasted this one
Today in class we had a free write for ten minutes where we had to write down any random things about our major, life, school, hometown, or anything that would help us students figure out what topic we wanted to write about. I wrote about that I am attending Ball State so i can get a good degree and eventually get a good job. I also wrote down that I took Chinese and Spanish in High School and that i could possibly write about one of their cultures. I wrote about how i enjoy watching the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I don't think I would find much to write about with football because i doubt i can ever get the chance to interview one of them. After dicussing with my group members what possible topics i could choose i finally limited it down to three. I want to write about either Chinese Culture, abortion, or teen pregnancy. I think chinese culture would be easy for me because i took chinese and i still communicate with my teacher and i can find chinese students on campus to interview. I could write about abortion because i am Catholic and i believe in pro-life so i could interview people from back home in Ohio to see what they have to say on the subject and i could also interview people that think abortion is okay. I could write about teen preganancy because in my high school, we had a problem with teenagers getting pregnant. We had at least 2 girls a year for the past 6 years getting pregnant.

Journal 3..Chapter 4 & 5..kristen thobe
In chapter 4 I read about how to read critically. It helped me how to think critically when I am doing research on my topic. When I find a source I need to get a preminary theseis statement. In order for me to read actively I am suppose to find key points and write any questions down that I would possibly have. Also, write down any ideas down so I do not forget and write down how i might be able to use them in my paper. When I read, I need to pay attention to the genre, important information, big words, and see if it is a primary or secondary source. When I am reading a source I should read it over a few times and pay attention to imporant and new information. In chapter 5 I read about evaluating sources. I need to look for evidence in my sources in order for me to start my paper. I can evaluate websites, blogs, journals, and books. As for my topic, I have not made a complete decision. I am still in between Chinese culture and teen pregnancy. I think both topics are good and I could possibly write a lot about them. I think I would be able to write more about chinese culture but I think I would be more interested about teen pregnancy because it is a topic that has arose in the past few years.

Journal 1:Syllabus
I like how we only have 100 points for the entire semester because it should be pretty easy to get full credit on most of the projects. I do not like how if you miss one class day that we get docked 2 points. If someone has an emergency, they can't help if they can't get to class. I think family emergencies are a little more important than class. I do like how we get those two points back if we attend all other classes. I am looking forward to researching a topic that i enjoy but I am a little bit confused on when we should start researching, what sort of topics can we write about, and do we research this topic everytime we do one of our projects. I think the journals on this blog will be easy points so i will make sure i do all of them. I am looking forward to this class because it seems like it should go smooth.
